Currie Park Takes Shape: Pavilion Foundations Complete and Marine Work Begins

Update as of November 10, 2025:


Work Completed

The project team continues to make strong progress at Currie Park. Recent work includes the completion of tree and curb demolition, which has opened the site for future improvements. Electrical conduit has been installed at the Events Pavilion, setting up the area for power and lighting systems. Crews have also successfully relocated several trees to new areas within the park, maintaining the project’s commitment to preserving green space. The foundation for the Events Pavilion has passed inspection, marking an important milestone as the structure begins to rise above grade.

Work Ahead

In the coming weeks, the focus will shift to visible construction at both the Café and Events Pavilions. Work will include parapet block installation, plumbing and electrical rough-ins, and continued foundation development. Along the shoreline, marine construction will advance with dock removal, rip rap placement for erosion control, and ramp pier forming to support future park access to the water.

Currie Park Project Milestones: Site Preparation & Utility Work Completed

Update as of October 10, 2025:
The project team continues to make excellent progress, completing essential utility and site preparation work that lays the foundation for
future development.
Recent milestones include:

  • Installation and testing of new water service connections, ensuring the site is fully integrated with the municipal water system.

  • Successful pressure testing, flushing, and sampling to guarantee high-quality, safe water flow for future use.

  • Construction of a conflict box to manage underground utility crossings, optimizing access and long-term maintenance efficiency.

  • Installation and tie-in of a new sewer lateral line to enhance wastewater infrastructure.

  • Completion of all backfill and compaction activities across the site, providing a stable and level base for ongoing work.

  • Preparation of the Events Building Pad, which now meets compaction and layout requirements and is ready for foundation construction.

🚦Road Closure & Detour Information

Duration: September 29th - October 15th

These closures are related to the ongoing underground utility work.

🚧 Road Closures

  • Flagler Drive will be closed at the project location (Currie Park Redevelopment, 2400 N Flagler Dr., West Palm Beach).

  • Bethesda Terrace will also be closed during this phase.

  • Closures will be announced via PCMS (Portable Changeable Message Signs), showing closure dates and detour instructions.​​​​

 

🔄 Detour Route

  • Traffic on N. Flagler Dr. will be redirected to nearby parallel streets:

    • 26th Street and 23rd Street serve as east–west connectors.

    • Dixie Hwy and Ponce De Leon Ave are designated as detour routes.

  • “Road Closed Ahead” and “Detour Ahead” signs will be posted in advance.

  • “End Detour” signs mark the return to Flagler Dr. after the closed section.​​​​​

 

🚶 Pedestrian Access

  • Flagler Dr. & Bethesda Terrace:

    • Portions of the sidewalks will be closed.

    • Signs such as “Sidewalk Closed Ahead” and “Cross Here” will direct pedestrians across the street to the open sidewalk.

    • Pedestrian LCDs (barriers) will separate people from the active work zone.

  • 23rd Street and 26th Street:

    • These are the main crossing points for pedestrians to safely detour around the closed Flagler Dr. section.

    • Marked crosswalks and detour signs will guide pedestrians to Dixie Hwy or Ponce De Leon Ave to continue moving north/south.

  • Flagger support:

    • Workers/flaggers will assist pedestrians, especially where the distance between safe crossings is longer.

 

🚴 Bicycle Access

  • The plan specifies: “Work will not affect bike lane.”

  • This means cyclists can continue riding along Flagler Dr. even during closures, with no reroute required.

 

Summary by Streets

  • Closed: Sidewalks on Flagler Dr. and Bethesda Terrace in the project area.

  • Open Detours:

    • Pedestrians: Must cross at 23rd St or 26th St and use Dixie Hwy or Ponce De Leon Ave to get around the closure.

    • Cyclists: Stay on Flagler Dr., as the bike lane remains open.

What's Happening at Currie Park

 

🚧 Currie Park Sidewalk Closure Update 🚧

 

As part of the Currie Park Redevelopment, the sidewalk along North Flagler Drive (near 2400 N Flagler Dr, West Palm Beach, FL 33407) will be temporarily closed to keep pedestrians safe during construction.

 

Closure Area: Sidewalk sections near 23rd Street, 26th Street, and Bethesda Terrace will be affected.

 

Pedestrian Detours: Signs marked “Sidewalk Closed” and “Cross Here” will guide pedestrians to safe crossings.

 

Safety Measures: Pedestrian channeling devices will separate walkers from the active work zone. Construction staff and flaggers will be available to assist where crossings are farther apart

 

Access Maintained: Nearby businesses, residences, bus stops, and fire hydrants will remain accessible.

 

We appreciate your patience while this important work continues. Please allow extra time when walking near Currie Park and follow posted detour routes for your safety.

Update as of September 11, 2025:

Construction is moving forward on several exciting improvements throughout the park. Here’s the latest update:

  • Currie Park is officially closed while improvements take place through 2027.

  • Crews are installing fencing and beginning demolition in preparation for the next phase of work.

  • Progress is being made on beams and tie work. The next steps include rebar installation, embeds, and inspections.

  • New underground water lines are being installed.

  • Rip-rap, sheet pile installation, and dock demolition are moving forward. The seawall demolition has been finished.

Currie Park’s New Chapter Is Taking Shape!

 

Update as of August 7, 2025:

There’s exciting progress happening at Currie Park as the redevelopment project continues!

 

  • The old seawall and dock have been fully demolished to make room for a brand-new waterfront experience.

 

  • Crews have been grading the shoreline throughout late July and early August to prepare for new landscaping and park features.

 

  • A major milestone was reached at the restaurant pavilion: after completing all underground work, the concrete slab was poured on August 3.

 

  • Site cleanup and removal of old materials are in progress across the park.

 

  • Along the water, large stones are being placed to help protect the shoreline from erosion.

 

🌿 Friendly Reminder: Currie Park will be closed to the public after Labor Day to keep everyone safe during the next phases of construction.

Currie Park Milestones: Foundations Set, Shoreline Work Underway

 

Update as of July 9, 2025:

Construction at Currie Park is progressing steadily. The following milestones have recently been completed or are currently underway:

 

  • Seawall demolition is ongoing to prepare for new shoreline enhancements.

 

  • Tree root pruning has been completed, and selective tree removals are in progress under the supervision of a certified arborist to preserve key landscaping features.

 

  • The restroom and storage building areas have been cleared and grubbed. The restaurant's footers have been poured, marking the start of vertical construction.

 

  • Underground utility work is being performed to support future infrastructure needs.

 

  • In addition to general coastal preparations, crews are actively working on the rip-rap slope, continuing sheet pile installation, and performing demolition activities along the shoreline.

Site Clearing and Demolition Begins for Currie Park Restaurant

Update as of June 6, 2025:

West Construction begins the Currie Park project with the careful demolition of the existing site, ensuring that all debris is responsibly managed and recycled where possible. Once the site is cleared, the team proceeds with the clearing and grubbing of the designated area for the new restaurant, preparing a clean and level foundation for the next phases of construction.

Currie Park Redevelopment Officially Breaks Ground
